St. John the Baptist Parish - Annual parades in St. John the Baptist Parish are set to roll this weekend before Mardi Gras as tradition holds. The Towahpahsah Parade will begin at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, February 25th and the Krewe Du Monde Parade will begin at 11:00 a.m. Sunday, February 26th.
St. John Parish officials have met with representatives from each parade as well as emergency responders and all agencies who assist with logistics for both parades. The Towahpahsah (click for route) and Krewe Du Monde (click for route) Parades will follow their traditional routes in Reserve and LaPlace.However, parade goers are advised to use extreme caution in the construction area on Hemlock Street and be aware of surroundings.
Public restrooms will be placed on parish servitudes throughout the parade routes for utilization by "parade-goers." Roads are expected to close approximately 15 minutes before the parade arrives. St. John Parish as well as representatives from both parades ask that everyone remain safe along the parade routes and also be mindful of state and parish project construction sites. Emergency responders have developed a plan for response during parade times.
Due to the Mardi Gras holiday, there will be no garbage collection on Mardi Gras Day, Tuesday, February 28th. Collection will resume on Wednesday, March 1st for Tuesday and Wednesday routes.
In addition, Parish offices will be closed on Monday, February 27th and Tuesday, February 28th.
