St. John Firefighters Win State Competition for Fourth Year in a Row

St. John the Baptist Parish – Members of the St. John Parish Office of Fire Services recently placed first in the Louisiana State Firemen’s Association Competitive Drills for the fourth year in a row.

Firefighter/Operators William Parker, Travis Etie, Micheal Moscona, and Cameron Buccola competed against three other teams in DeSoto Parish to win the highest honor.

“I congratulate these Firefighters for again working together as a team and proving that we are a top-notch department in the state,” said Parish President Robottom. “To win this award once or twice would be great, but four years in a row should make everyone proud that they are on our team."

The competition entailed a grueling day of timed “Firefighter Skills Events” aimed at duplicating the rigors firefighters face daily in the line of duty, including hose, water transfer and equipment drills.

"Firefighting is about teamwork – once we completed our drills, we helped our other brothers finish the competition and that is really what it’s all about,” said Team Captain Cameron Buccola. “We are all a family - not just St. John but all firefighters. We all work hard each day to get better and it was rewarding to see that our Department’s hard work paid off to win another year.”
