St. John the Baptist Parish - The National Weather Service is predicting severe weather to impact parts of the state including Southeast Louisiana Saturday, April 13, 2019 into Sunday, April 14, 2019.
Inclement weather is expected to begin during the late afternoon and then spread eastward through the evening and overnight. Most of the severe weather could occur overnight Saturday in our area.
The main threats associated with the severe storms will be:
- Wind gusts more than 60 mph which could down trees and powerlines and/or cause structural damage
- Isolated tornadoes - a few of which could be strong
- Hail greater than 1 inch in diameter
- Rainfall of 1 to 2 inches with isolated higher amounts are possible which could lead to ponding of water in low lying areas as well as isolated flash flooding.
A Wind Advisory will be in effect Saturday so residents are encouraged to pick up tree limbs, bring in garbage cans and tie down anything that can become flying debris such as trampolines in yards. Residents are also encouraged to assist in cleaning up catch basins and drains around homes in advance of rainfall.
Public Works and Utilities crews will be on standby during the weekend if issues arise. Please dial 9-1-1 Emergency Center to report concerns during the weather event. Please also visit the St. John Parish website at sjbparish.com and click on “stay Connected” to register for Parish alerts.
