St. John the Baptist Parish - Parish officials are gearing up for the annual Veterans Luncheon and Independence Day Celebrations Along the River Wednesday, July 3rd, 2019.

The 14th Annual Veterans Luncheon will be held again at REGALA Gym, 200 REGALA Park Rd in Reserve. The program begins at 11:00 a.m. and the Honorable General Robert Crear, who served almost 33 years on active duty worldwide where he commanded and led soldiers at every level with the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers will serve as the guest speaker.

Other invited guests include the honorable State Representatives and Congress members who will join Council members and other elected officials in saluting our local veterans.  The luncheon is open to all veterans and their spouses.

The 19th Annual Independence Day Celebration and firework show will be held on the evening of July 3 on the grounds of the St. Peter Catholic Church, 1550 Highway 44, Reserve, LA and the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 2349 Louisiana 18, Edgard, LA at 6:00 p.m.

The celebrations will culminate with a firework display on the Mississippi River beginning promptly at 9:00 p.m. The events will be filmed and broadcast live beginning at 7 p.m. on the government access channel and the Parish website at sjbparish.com.

This year, attendees will not be allowed to view the show from the levee for safety reasons due to high river levels. However, residents will still able to view from St. Peter’s Church in Reserve or St. John the Baptist Church in Edgard.

Residents should also be reminded that fireworks can lawfully be discharged in St. John on July Fourth from dusk until 10:00 p.m. No fireworks should be discharged closer than 500 feet from any hospital, church, nursing home or school and should always be discharged with proper supervision from an adult. “We wish everyone a Happy Fourth of July and we hope to see you at our Independence Day celebrations on July 3rd,” said Parish President Natalie Robottom.
