St. John the Baptist Parish - The KCS Holiday Express Train will make a stop in St. John Parish on Friday, November 29, 2019. The festive six car train featuring Santa Claus and his elves will be open to the public beginning at 4:00 pm along the train tracks between Hemlock St. and Parish Road in LaPlace.
The Holiday Express features a smiling tank car “Rudy”; a flatcar carrying Santa’s sleigh, reindeer and a miniature village, a ginger bread boxcar; the elves workshop; the reindeer stable; and a little red caboose.
The KCS Holiday Express Train has a charitable component to its visits, making contributions of gift cards from the KCS Charitable Fund to the local Salvation Army to provide warm clothing and other necessities for children in need. The KCS Holiday Express has donated over $2 million in gift cards to this cause.
The Annual Holiday Express Train will visit 20 communities on 26 dates in five states throughout the Kansas City Southern Railway Company service territory. The last time the train stopped in St. John Parish was in 2011.
The Holiday Express Train was created in 2001 by volunteers who dedicated over 8,000 hours to renovate rail cars into a holiday spirited, brightly lighted and exciting train for children. Admission is free for all and is open to the public. The KCS Railroad ensures all children will view the train before closing.
Volunteers are needed for the event. More information will be released in the upcoming weeks.
