Parks and Recreation Kicks Off 2015 Baseball Season

Tuesday, June 2, 2015

On Saturday, May 23, the Parks and Recreation Department kicked off the 2015 Dizzy Dean baseball season with an opening day ceremony.  Kerry Watkins, Director of Parks and Recreation, provided the welcome and thanked his staff, volunteers and parents for their hard work and support to begin the season.  Deja Fiest sang the National Anthem and Angelic Sutherland, Planning and Zoning Director, threw out the first pitch to open the season.

The 2015 baseball league consists of 16 teams that are scheduled to play approximately 80 games between May and July.  There are three tee-ball teams, four 7-8 year old teams, three 9-10 year old teams, one 11-12 year old team, and two 13-14 year old teams.   At the end of the season all-star teams are selected to compete at Regional, State and National Tournaments.

“The opening tournament was a great success and we look forward to a busy fun-filled summer,” said Director Kerry Watkins.  “A special thanks to my staff and the parents for assisting with the tournament.  Based on the past performance of our teams, we have high expectations for a winning season.”

In addition to the six games scheduled throughout the day, attendees enjoyed spacewalks, food, and lots of fun.  A schedule of games and photos will be posted on the parish website at throughout the season.
