ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH – St. John the Baptist Parish hosted its first State Tournament for Dizzy Dean Baseball at REGALA Park this past weekend.
With the advantage of beautiful weather, the park was electric with players, parents, coaches, and fans enjoying the baseball games throughout the weekend. “I am proud to say that the tournament was a great success,” said Parks & Recreation Director Kerry Watkins. “It also gave surrounding communities a chance to come in, see what we have, and enjoy it. We received compliments throughout the weekend which only pushes us to continue striving to get better,” he added.
St. John Parish 7, 8, and 14 year-old All Stars were all victorious in the state tournament being crowned as Louisiana Dizzy Dean State Champions. The 7-year-old Warriors finished tournament play with a 2-0 record which qualifies them to compete July 18-19 at the World Series in Southaven, Mississippi.
The 8-year-old Warriors were undefeated against Plaquemines qualifying them to compete in the World Series July 22-23. Finally, after contending tirelessly in extra innings, the 14 year old Warriors pulled off a victory in the championship game. They will advance to the World Series Tournament scheduled for July 18-19.
The Warriors received bids for state tournament play based on their winning records at the United States Specialty Sports Association summer tournaments. “Congratulations to all of the teams for their continuous hard work and success throughout the season,” said Parish President Robottom. “We wish the 7,8, and 14 year-old Warriors the best of luck and know they will represent St. John well at the World Series.”
