Parks & Recreation Department to Offer Free Swimming Lessons

ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH- The St. John the Baptist Parish Parks & Recreation Department will team up with the American Red Cross again this summer to offer free swimming lessons for Parish youth ages 5 to 17 and adults ages 18 and over. Participants will undergo five 45-minute swimming lessons focusing on floating, kicking, breathing, arm movement and swimming to the side of the pool.

Early registration will take place this Sunday, May 15 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the LaPlace Walmart. Applicants can also register by visiting the St. John Parks & Recreation Office, 200 REGALA Park Rd., in Reserve during normal business hours.

Session availability are as follows:

Children (Ages 5-17

Dates: (choose one week)

  • June 13-17, 2016
  • June 20-24, 2016

Times:

  • 5:45 – 6:30 pm
  • 6:45 – 7:30 pm
  • 7:35 – 8:15 pm

Adults (Ages 18 & Up)

Dates:

  • July 11 – 15

Times:

  • 5:45 – 6:30 pm
  • 6:45-7:30 pm

The Ashley Kelly Swim Program gives participants the opportunity to receive life-saving swimming skills and teaches safety in and around swimming pools and other bodies of water. Through the program, certified instructors teach participants water skills through fun activities.
